Your health and wellbeing are fundamental to living a happy, positive life. If you’re not taking care of yourself, how can you be sure that you’re going to enjoy living the life that you’ve been given? Taking care of yourself isn’t always bubble baths and a book, it’s also making sure that you’re eating a well-balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, brushing your teeth, and remembering to scrub behind the ears. All of these things might seem basic enough, but are you actually taking your time with them? Or are you rushing through it to get it over with?
Self-care should be something that you take your time with and enjoy, not something that you do because you feel like you have to. Wake up a little earlier if you must in order to actually enjoy yourself. Trust me, having a little extra time to yourself in the morning can really help set the mood for the day. Take your time in the shower, take your time shaving, take your time with your skincare. Everything starts to feel so much better when you can take your time with something and not feel rushed to get everything done.
We all need to set aside time to care for ourselves every day. When you can take several minutes to yourself, to do something that makes you feel better and happier, your mood will lift, you’ll feel better about yourself and your life, and you’ll be happier overall! We all need time to ourselves to reset and reflect, and we should take our time with it. You’ll always feel better after doing something for yourself, even if it’s drinking a glass of water. Being mindful of the fact that you’re nourishing your body with liquids and whole foods, and taking care of your skin and hair, is just one step towards a happier, healthier life. Take the time to enjoy the foods you’re eating, to enjoy that hot shower, and notice how you feel afterwards. I’ll bet you’ll feel better if you take the time to appreciate the kind things you’re doing for yourself, rather than simply running through the motions of the day-to-day.
Living a healthy lifestyle starts and ends with self-care. If you’re not putting in the time to care for yourself, what does that say about the other aspects of your life? Are you taking care of your work? Your family? Your finances? Self-care is the start of it all! You can’t pour from an empty cup, as the saying goes. Make sure you’re putting aside the time for you and your needs, and slow down. Take your time with yourself and your self-care. Try your best to remember to slow down in life, and really take the time to enjoy and appreciate the time to yourself whenever you get it. You’ll thank yourself later.
