Learn to Stay Mindful of the Present Moment

Staying mindful and present in our everyday lives can be challenging sometimes. Work creeps in, deadlines are looming, and you still don't know what to make for dinner when you get home. Stop right there. Take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. What task needs to be completed right now? What can you do to move closer to your long-term goals right now? We spend so much time in our heads and in our own future that sometimes we forget that we don't live there. We live right here, right now.

There is a Japanese word that fits very well with this post: ukiyo (浮世), which refers to a state of mind that emphasizes living in the moment, detached from the difficulties of life. We can all try to have a mindset more like this. Forget about your worries and simply be; just exist for a moment. I find that deep breathing helps, as well as taking a moment to just observe your surroundings. Simply be in the now.

Don't worry yourself with the future and don't feel guilty about the past. Learn to simply be with yourself and your life within the present moment. There is plenty of time for the future, but, at the moment, there is only the present. Put the phone down and take a moment to just breathe, to just exist in the world.

Staying mindful in a world that is always "go, go, go" can be challenging. Society puts so much pressure on us to be constantly doing something, but you have to remember that it's okay to take time out to not do anything at all. You can simply relax and enjoy the life that you have, one moment at a time.

Let Go of the Past and Embrace Change

Leave the past in the past! You won’t progress in life if you’re dragging old habits around with you. If you keep trying the same thing over and over again, and you’re not getting the results that you want, maybe it’s time to try something new. T hink of it like diet and exercise. Some diets won't work for you, just like some exercises work better for other people than they will for you. It’s all about figuring out what works, rather than doing the same old thing and becoming disappointed every time you don’t get results. In order to move forward in your life, you need to learn to embrace change. Sometimes, you can get so caught up in sticking with the things that you know, that you wind up afraid of venturing out of your comfort zone. It’s easy to stay with what’s familiar, but you have to learn to let go of familiarity and let yourself embrace the new and the unknown. You need to allow yourself to be open to new ideas and new ways of thinking. You're stuck where you are righ...

Don't Allow Your Fears To Control Your Life

Everyone has something that they are afraid of—you, me, everyone! It’s not shameful to have these fears, but you shouldn’t allow them to take precedent over your life. Things only have power over you because you give them that power. If your fears are starting to hold you back from living the life that you want, then you need to rethink how you view those fears and learn to break past them in order to move on. Your limitations are only limitations because you allow them to be. You are capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for, so don’t allow yourself to be brought down by your fears just because you’re worried that you won’t be able to overcome them. You can do anything that you put your mind to, and if that involves overcoming your fears, then you will be able to do just that! When you choose to avoid your fears and not face them, you open yourself up to even more fear, as well as limitations on your abilities. Facing your fears allows you to break free of the restrict...

Fire It Up Friday

Happy Friday! Y'all know what time it is! It's that time of the week where we list the things that we look forward to; it's Fire It Up Friday! There is so much in life to look forward to, so let's help each other out by naming the things that we're excited for. I'll start us off by saying that I'm excited to go to the beach tomorrow. Beach time is always a good time. I'm gonna have ice cream for lunch and hopefully hit plenty of waves! Life gives us so much to hope for; it's hard to see the bad when you're so focused on all of the good things headed your way. There's always something to be excited for, even if it's not your next concert or your next beach day; it can be as simple as waking up tomorrow morning to spend a relaxing day at home or being excited for your next cup of coffee. If it makes you happy, it's worth being excited for. Let everyone know what you're looking forward to in the comments. Have a great weekend, everyo...
