Rather than focusing on the mistakes of the past, you should make room in your mind and heart for better things. Regret is not something you should be holding onto; it has no place in your life. All it does is take up space and make you feel bad about things that you can’t change. Why should your life today be dictated by the mistakes you made in the past?
When you’re feeling regret, you should take a tip from the ocean and let the waves come and go. Grab a bodyboard if you have to and ride it through to the end, or a surfboard if the waves are a little high. The point is, you need to learn to let the waves of regret come and go; don’t try to hang onto them, or you risk drowning yourself.
One of the secrets to living a happy life is letting go. If you can’t let things go, then you’re going to find yourself in a very bitter and frustrated state of being. Regret will only continue to drag you further and further down into a rabbit hole of stress and depression. Try concentrating on the lesson you took away from the experience rather than dwelling on your regrets.
If you treat everything as a learning lesson rather than a win-lose situation, you’ll find yourself being a little more content and happy with your life. You have no need for regret when you can simply find the lesson to be learned and choose to make that your focus instead of feeling guilt over a mistake that you’ve made.
Now is the time to let go of everything you regret. Consider them, acknowledge your feelings, and then let them go, to remain in the past, where they belong. You’ve learned your lesson, and you can use what you’ve learned to make better decisions in the future. Focus on the lesson; release the regret.
