Taking the time to truly understand someone is much harder than making a quick, ill-informed judgment about them. You can learn so much more about a person when you try to understand them for who they are rather than judging them. It feels like not many people actually take the time to talk to one another and to learn things about each other these days; it seems like everyone is so quick to judge someone else for one little thing that they did instead of taking the time to fully understand the whole story.
Judgment is easily passed without a second thought, but understanding is something that takes time to cultivate. Sometimes, it takes mere minutes to understand why someone acts the way they do, and other times, it could take years. What matters in any situation is mutual understanding between one another. You don’t have to agree on everything, but taking the time to talk and to discuss your differences in a calm manner will lead to a deeper form of respect and understanding between each other.
Understanding without judgment is a difficult thing to achieve, but it is doable. This life is far too short to judge people for things that they cannot change or for unwavering opinions that they hold. Instead of arguing with each other about our differences, why don’t we simply talk about them instead and learn to see both sides of the situation instead of arguing that one side is right and the other side is wrong?
There is never any need to be a judgmental asshole; it’s always best to choose the path of least resistance and to resort to understanding and compassion. When you judge others, you invite judgment on yourself, but being kind, compassionate, and understanding towards someone will always do more for your relationship with them than to inflict immediate judgment on them.
Always choose to be kind, because you never know what someone else is going through. Don’t judge them because they act a certain way or because they say things that offend you; instead, try to show a little compassion and be understanding towards them. A little kindness can go a long way, especially for someone who is struggling. You never know what a kind word can achieve!
