We are all capable of making choices in life that we won’t necessarily agree with later on. Life is something to be experienced and learned from every step of the way. You’re not always going to make the right decision on the first try, but that is what experience is for, and you can only acquire experience by making the wrong choice first. Every choice you make has led you to this moment in time.
Often, when you make the wrong decision, you’ll feel guilty about it afterwards. The truth is, if you didn’t know any better, then it was not your fault, and you should treat the experience as a learning lesson rather than something to look back on with shame and regret. Not knowing better at the time is not something to be ashamed of, so long as you know better now and make better choices.
You must forgive yourself for the choices that you have made. Choose to forgive and move on with your life instead of living a life of guilt and regret. You need to remember to go easy on yourself; life is going to be full of decisions for you to make, and some of those decisions you have never had to consider before, so don’t worry if you make the wrong choice. Life is supposed to be full of growth and learning opportunities!
If you are able to forgive others when they mess up, then you can forgive yourself as well. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself for making a mistake or a poor decision. So long as you learn from your mistakes, you can never go wrong. Treat the mistakes as learning opportunities to help you grow and make better choices the next time you are faced with a similar situation.
Life doesn’t have to be full of regret and shame if you don’t want it to be. Choose to see your mistakes as learning lessons, and choose to move on from them and continue to live a happy, fulfilled life with the newfound knowledge that you have acquired from your past. There are countless reasons to be happy, and that knowledge is one of them! Forgive yourself and move on with your life!
