Happy May Day—or, if you’re in Hawai’i, Happy Lei Day—to everyone! Today is the midway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice; we are halfway to summer, y’all! Spring has fully kicked in, and we’re well on our way to hotter days and cool nights filled with the sounds of crickets and frogs. Beach days are here, bees are buzzing, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and there are a plethora of good things happening out there in the world right now, so remember to take some time to slow down and appreciate all of the good in your life.
Life is good in so many ways. There is always something out there to be thankful for, to look forward to, or to simply admire because it exists. Take a step back and think about all of the good things that you have going on in your life or something good that you heard about going on in the world. Shift your focus away from the negative energy and negative vibes that others may have or that you may have acquired from watching the news. There is more good in this world than bad, and far more good than you may realize.
This month of May is the perfect time to take in all of the wonderful sights around you. There is bound to be something around you that you can be thankful for and appreciate. Spring is at its peak, and there are going to be sights and smells that you won’t get until next year. Take the time to appreciate all of the little things that you can experience this time of year. Live fully in the moment, take time to smell the flowers, look at the moon, say “Hi!” to a bird, do all of these things, and do them all with a mindset of slowness and presentness.
May is named for the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Plants are a great way to bring a little more sunshine and positivity into your life, and this month is absolutely perfect for them. Whether they are wild or houseplants, any plant will brighten up a room and bring a smile to your face. I feel like too many people have welcomed the blue light of screens over the greenery of nature nowadays. We need to get back to nature and to experiencing life the way it was meant to be lived (which is not behind a screen all day).
May this May bring you loads of joy and happiness and a deeper appreciation for all of the goodness that surrounds you. Maybe go buy a houseplant or some flowers for your home and see how quickly it brightens a room. Remember to take a lesson from the sea turtle and just slow down in life and take time to truly appreciate all that life has to offer you. There is too much good in this world to be in a constant state of negativity. Look a little harder and find the good in each and every day. And a Happy May to all of you! Aloha! 🤙
